What Our Students Say
Niruni Gamage

MSc Business with Human Resource Management student from Sri Lanka.
What attracted you to your course at ǿմý?
In the process of planning how to transition into an illustrious career as General Manager at a multinational company, I concluded that the MSc Business with HR Management course at Robert Gordon University was the right path to take. The course focuses on training aspiring professionals who want to develop their managerial competence and enhance their skills in the key functional business area of “people management”.
Also, ǿմý being named as the “Scottish University of the Year 2021” and then consistently named as one of the top UK universities for graduate employability in the UK, further attested my choice to choose ǿմý as my higher education destination.
Before coming to ǿմý, what was your expectation of it - and how has the reality been?
I expected a whole new learning experience at ǿմý. When I got here, I was fascinated by the modern and professional study facilities available. This complemented the theoretical and practical knowledge provided by the extremely committed and talented pool of lecturers and tutors. The flexibility of class schedules, which are offered under the guidance and mentorship of experienced academic and professional staff, makes me excited about all that I will learn.
What's the best thing about being an ǿմý student?
I would say the individualized instruction given and extremely interactive lecture and tutoring series. The fresh insights provided by the academic staff makes ǿմý the perfect place to pursue my favourite and still-to-be-discovered academic interests. Also, it’s quite relaxing to sit next to the river and enjoy the view while doing my assignments.
Describe your favourite memory of ǿմý so far?
I was quite lucky to have met amazing friends from different countries and those friends made every minute of my university life memorable in every possible way. We shared insights on our modules and helped each other in difficult areas while having fun. There were lots of events and activities we took part in the university and I'm grateful for ǿմý for establishing such a friendly and open culture where we felt welcomed and valued.
Tell us about your most challenging/rewarding project/assignment/module. What did you like/ dislike about it and how has it helped you?
Strategic Leadership was my favourite module as it was quite interesting to explore further. Jonny as the lecturer, did an amazing job and he interacted with us in several ways to keep us all on the track. He regularly gave us “food-for-thought” and made us do activities which broadened our scope of thinking. Personally, I enjoyed learning that module and engaged to the fullest as I believed that it would help me in various ways to reach my goal to be a General Manager.
What is your favourite way to spend your time when you are not studying? Why is that important to you?
I'll either go for a swim at ǿմý or just hang out with my friends by the shores of river Dee. The greenery and aesthetic surrounding of the river Dee is extremely wholesome, and I could really feel the freedom and serenity around me.
What would you say to someone considering studying at ǿմý? Any advice you would share?
I would 100% recommend ǿմý as the best higher education destination one could go to, as it prepares you to be an outstanding professional. ǿմý has a vast range of courses that you can apply for according to your interests. Also, all the modules that you will go through will not just enhance your knowledge and sharpen your personality to be the best.
