A passion for design brought Jaydn Walker to Ðǿմ«Ã½, and as he walks across the stage at P&J Live he can reflect on not only completing the Master of Architecture course, but a lifetime of memories made at Ðǿմ«Ã½.

Originally from Prestwick, South Ayrshire, Jaydn’s decision to pursue postgraduate studies at Ðǿմ«Ã½ was inspired by the strong sense of community within the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment.

The 23-year-old is hoping to become a fully charted architect within the next four years and has taken a positive step in that direction by securing a job.

Jaydn said: “I’m moving to Edinburgh in the next few weeks to work as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant while working towards my Part 3 accreditation. The aim is to become a fully chartered architect by the time I’m 27 - which is still very young in this field, so I’m excited to get started and keep that momentum going.

“I think my time at Ðǿմ«Ã½ has really prepared me through all the networking opportunities and the variety of experiences we’ve had. It reflects how things work in practice - balancing different tasks, working across stages, and constantly adapting. While we take on big projects individually at university, in practice it’ll be more team-based, which I’m actually really looking forward to because I’ve always enjoyed group work and got a lot out of it during the course.â€

Jaydn managed to successfully balance his studies with a part-time job as a product specialist for a major technology brand, and he feels this helped build up his soft and transferable skills.

He said that one of the biggest highlights of his time at Ðǿմ«Ã½ was serving as co-president of the . Jaydn also feels that, beyond gaining a recognised academic qualification, the course has significantly boosted his confidence.

Jaydn added: “A major highlight for me has been being part of , from starting out as a member to becoming secretary and eventually co-president, it’s felt like a really special full-circle moment. I also served as a Student School Officer, which was incredibly rewarding and gave me the opportunity to support others.â€

“But honestly, one of the most meaningful parts has been the friendships. I’ve made such good, lifelong friends who I absolutely love - I couldn’t imagine Ðǿմ«Ã½ life without them, and I know they’ll be a huge part of my professional life too.â€
