This module provides a means to create a bespoke learning framework to support the development of specific professional or clinical skills required for an advanced practice role.
The course is for social workers and health and social care professionals working across both children’s and adult’s services. It is particularly relevant for those who want to develop and improve their skills and knowledge in delivering FGDM or who want to explore the model’s application to their service.
This is a unique certificated course (SCQF level 9) developed by Children 1st in partnership with Robert Gordon University and the City of Edinburgh Council. The course brings together health and social care practitioners in a supportive learning environment to develop a critical and informed understanding of the context, theory, process, and delivery of FDGM.
The course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to be able to co-ordinate and run an effective family group meeting.
The course uses a mixture of learning methods including experiential learning, group activities and discussions, classroom-based presentations, and supplementary online materials.
All 3 days of the course adopt a workshop model which offered a mixed approach to student learning.
Groups will consist of between 10-16 students.
The course is delivered off-campus in a classroom environment. Geographic locations are determined by participant demand.
The course runs two – three times across the calendar year. Dates are determined by participant demand.
Students are assessed via a single essay of 3,000 words, which should be submitted 4 weeks after the final teaching day.
The course is delivered by experienced practitioners from Children 1st who have both skills and knowledge of the coordination and delivery of FGDM. The course is supported by a Principal Social Work lecturer from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ who has academic and professional experience of support, care and protection activity.
Participants will be required to engage with independent study with a focus on knowledge gain through reading material relevant to the course. Participants will also be expected to undertake independent study in relation to the assessment.
Successful completion of the course means participants will be positioned to undertake the coordinator role and to run an effective Family Group Meeting.
